This book won the Iowa Prize for Short Fiction, as judged by Tim O'Brien. It was published by the University of Iowa press in January of 1986.

"Little Bear" appeared in Passages North.

"Dancing in the Movies" appeared in TriQuarterly.

"The Darkness of Love" appeared in Ploughshares.

"The Right Thing" appeared in the Antioch Review.

"Flipflops" appeared in the anthology High Infidelity.

"Kentucky" was not published elsewhere but became the first chapter to my first novel, Crooked Hearts.
